OSF System Laboratory Earns National Accreditation
Two OSF HealthCare laboratories have received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), based on results of recent on-site inspections.
The main OSF System Laboratory, located on the campus of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, and the OSF Center for Health at Route 91 lab, also located in Peoria, earned the status based on the excellence of services being provided.
The U.S. government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960,s, as being equal to, and in some cases, more stringent than the federal government's own inspection program.
The CAP inspection is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all lab patients. During the accreditation process, inspectors examined the laboratories records and quality control of procedures for the previous two years. CAP inspectors also examine lab staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
The OSF System Laboratory at OSF Saint Francis is under the direction of Dr. Manuel Doria, Jr. while the OSF Center for Health at Route 91 lab is under the direction of Dr. William Null. The facilities are part of a system of seven hospital laboratories located throughout central Illinois and northern Michigan.
