Kevin Schoeplein Elected to IHA Board

Kevin Schoeplein, Chief Executive Officer, OSF Healthcare System, has been elected to the Illinois Hospital Association’s (IHA) Board of Trustees as an at-large trustee. Mr. Schoeplein started his three-year term on Jan. 1, 2014.

Executives | Kevin SchoepleinMr. Schoeplein has been serving as the CEO for OSF since February of 2011 following his promotion from the Executive Vice President’s position which he held for eight years. 

He began his career with The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis as an Assistant Administrator at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in 1978 until 1983 when he was appointed Administrator/CEO at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.  He returned to Peoria in 1988 to serve as the President of OSF Saint Francis, Inc. The next year Kevin was given the additional responsibility of OSF Healthcare Foundation. 

From 1996 to 1999 he also served as the CEO of the Northern Illinois/Michigan Region and in 1999 he led OSF HealthPlans as its President until the successful sale to Humana in May of 2008.  In 2003 Kevin accepted the Executive Vice President of OSF Healthcare System position while continuing his leadership roles of OSF Saint Francis, Inc. and the Foundation.  Kevin earned his B.S.B.A. Degree from St. Louis University and two masters’ degrees from Xavier University in Cincinnati – an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance and a Master of Health Administration.

The IHA Board of Trustees is the Association’s policymaking body. The Board is made up of 31 trustees, including 15 at-large trustees elected by the voting members of the Association, nine regional trustees elected directly by the regions, six elected officers (chair, chair-elect, immediate past chair, immediate past, past chair, treasurer, and secretary), and the Association’s president and CEO ex-officio.  Additionally, Mr. Schoeplein was selected by the IHA and its members to serve on the American Hospital Association Region 5 Policy Board which in concert with the eight other AHA regions produces the principles and positions that guide the AHA’s advocacy.
