OSF HealthCare is full of faith. Faith was a driving force when founders, The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, moved from Germany to care for the sick in Illinois. Now, each Sister and employee is encouraged to use his or her own faith, no matter the religion, to help serve with the greatest care and love.
The environment at OSF HealthCare is open and friendly in a way that allows employees, referred to as Mission Partners, to share their faith to comfort and encourage those around them.
“I feel that faith is what has helped keep me strong in my job,” said Jennifer Wilson, a hospice registered nurse at OSF Home Care Services in Galesburg, Ill. “I feel that every day I am helping others and am doing God’s work.”
The Call to Serve
The call to serve is familiar with many nurses. Whether that desire comes with a religious background or not, OSF HealthCare opens its arms to everyone.
“Since working at OSF HealthCare, I have been impressed with the acceptance of people of all races and religions,” said Sheila Standfield, an ambulatory services nurse at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Ill. “They truly treat everyone with the greatest care, love and respect.”
OSF HealthCare recognizes the impact and comfort religious faith can have during a patient’s stay at inpatient facilities or while under outpatient care.
“I love that patients, families and visitors welcome faith as part of their care,” said Jennifer Girard, a surgical acute nurse at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. “Nurses allow time for prayer before procedures; nurses have prayed with patients and families. And even though OSF HealthCare is a Catholic facility, there is no judgment against other religions and no push to convert to Catholicism.”
