Connections 114: OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home

Today is the Blessing Ceremony for the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. This is a special day not only for all of us involved in our hospice and home care services but for OSF HealthCare as a whole.

For those of you not familiar with the hospice home approach, it is designed to be the ideal home away from home. A hospice home provides patients and families the opportunity to expand their relationship and provide optimum medical attention in warm, comfortable surroundings with around-the-clock care. A hospice home is a place to live and accept life’s end in peace, with comfort and dignity.

The OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home is located near the OSF Center for Health on Route 91 in Peoria, Illinois. It is the first hospice home in central Illinois and only the fourth such facility in the State of Illinois. The home is named in memory of Richard L. Owens to acknowledge the generous $2 million gift from Mrs. Owens. Total cost for the home, including an endowment fund for patients, is expected to be nearly $10 million.

Additionally, OSF Home Care employees are quite passionate about the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home project, many of them for personal reasons. To learn more about our employees and what this project means to them, visit our OSF Home Care testimonials library.

For those of you in the Greater Peoria area, to refer one of your patients for this type of end-of-life care, just call the OSF Home Care and Hospice Services number at (309) 683-7700.
