Our Mission makes this a great place to work

Growing up in Peoria, I’ve always known that OSF HealthCare is a great place to work. But it wasn’t until my grandpa passed away in October that I really appreciated how blessed I am to work for such an amazing health care system.

Visiting him at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, I was able to see how many hands it takes to serve just one patient. It made me appreciate our Mission – to serve with the greatest care and love – in a new way. Our Mission is a big reason I love my job so much.

I joined OSF HealthCare as a professional recruiter in February 2019. I recruit for all therapy positions throughout the Ministry: physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech language pathologists, respiratory therapists and, well, you get the idea.

My husband, John, and I were married in May. He is the director of operations for a solar energy company and loves what he does! I don’t have any crazy hobbies, unless you count shopping and always looking for a good deal. I also love trips to the beach, hanging out at home (usually watching one of my favorite TV shows), or being with my friends and family.

A variety of work settings

I love helping people, but I knew that some things about nursing were too intense for me. So, working as a health care recruiter is the best of both worlds. Every job helps our patients in some way! My job satisfaction as an OSF Mission Partner comes from knowing that the therapists I recruit will be the ones directly treating patients every day.

OSF HealthCare is growing, so I think there will always be a need for therapists (yay, job security!). But new positions are always being added. Plus, people move, retire, etc., and those decisions create job openings.

All of my open positions are critical, so it’s hard to pinpoint where we need therapists the most. But I will say that home care tends to be overlooked. Every home care therapist that I have ever talked to has said they love getting the opportunity to help patients in the environment where they are most comfortable – at home! So, I would encourage you to check out OSF HealthCare home care openings next time you’re job hunting.

The work setting of a therapist depends on your interest and the position for which you apply. The job location could be in one of our 14 hospitals, an outpatient clinic or home care. All are equally important to the success of OSF HealthCare!

OSF Mission makes the difference

The OSF Mission and how we live it truly differentiate us from other organizations.

When I screen candidates, I am looking for someone who already practices our Mission in their daily life. How do you treat others? How do you respond to my questions on the phone? How would your references speak of you? Of course, there are a lot of educational requirements to work in therapy, but you can’t teach someone to be a nice person and to genuinely care for others. Having a Mission-driven culture, I am looking for someone who can take our Mission and be the driver!

One question we ask during telephone screening is why an applicant is leaving their current employer or looking for a new position. Let’s just say that if I had a dollar for every time someone said “all my employer cares about is the money and getting patients out the door,” then I wouldn’t need to work! OSF HealthCare truly cares about each patient that comes to see us and wants them to receive the best care possible.

Consider the whole package

As you consider a position with OSF HealthCare, it is important to look at the whole benefits package and not just the hourly rate of pay. Of course we offer health, vision and dental insurance, but we go beyond that. It’s one way our Mission extends to all of us as Mission Partners.

Do you want to go back to school? OSF will help. Do you want to save for retirement? OSF will help. Do you want to adopt a child? OSF will help. Do you want to take a vacation? OSF will help. Sounds pretty good to me!

Well, if you’ve made it this far then the real question is: Why wouldn’t you want to become a Mission Partner at OSF HealthCare? Fill out an application and let’s talk. I promise you won’t regret it!
