Now Providing Neonatology Services

As part of our commitment to the Bloomington-Normal region, OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center now offers around the clock neonatology care by experienced neonatology experts from OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois in Peoria.

These specialists provide the highest level of expertise around-the-clock for all of our newborns, and will do so throughout your newborn’s stay in our Birthing Center. This added level of expert care allows babies who may have been transferred to OSF Children’s Hospital in the past to remain right here close to home in the nursery at OSF St. Joseph. Your pediatrician will begin seeing your baby following their discharge from the hospital.

If your baby needs to be transferred to OSF Children’s Hospital, you can take comfort as a parent knowing they will receive consistent and high-quality care right here close to home in central Illinois – no need to travel to Chicago or St. Louis.

Birthing Center

Our private rooms offer a comfortable, home-like setting for you and your newborn.

We are proud to offer a new concept in the world of bassinets – the HALO® Bassinest®. It’s the only hospital bassinet designed to safely keep baby closer to mom, enabling bonding during those first moments together.

OSF HealthCare now offers a smartphone app for expectant and new moms called Circle by OSF.

It delivers trusted, personalized heath information and relevant services from OSF HealthCare and our partners. It's free and easy to download.

Lactation Consultation

In addition to our nursing staff, we have a board-certified lactation consultant and a certified lactation specialist who are here to assist with breastfeeding.

Choosing to breastfeed can be one of the most important decisions a mother makes to protect their baby's health and well-being.

We offer outpatient appointments and also a new, innovative TeleLactation service.

Moms of Beautiful Babies

The Birthing Center offers a social network for new moms called Moms of Beautiful Babies (The MOBB).

The group meets every Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon in the Business and Conference Center.

Whether you come late, leave early, or stay the whole time, the social group is flexible and informal.

Baby-Friendly Designation

OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center is the Bloomington area's only designated Baby-Friendly hospital – the gold standard of maternity care. We are one of 19 locations in Illinois.

This prestigious designation means we offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. We want to ensure moms and infants receive the most appropriate, evidence-based care.

Quality Care

When it's time to deliver, our highly trained staff of physicians, nurses and care professionals will provide you with the exceptional quality care you deserve. We are confident that you will love your experience because our care exceeds the target goal in nearly every category measured by the annual Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Leapfrog is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement forward in the quality and safety of American health care.

Blue Distinction Center+

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois has recognized OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center with the Blue Distinction® Center+ for Maternity Care designation as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated hospitals that show expertise in delivering improved patient safety and better health outcomes, based on objective measures that were developed with input from the medical community.
