Our team will work with you to determine when your child is ready to go home. Plan to bring a set of clothes with you for your child to wear home. You will also receive specific written instructions about going home and home care. In some cases, there is a video or class to help you learn or adjust. A copy of the information shared with you will also be sent to your child’s doctor.
Car Seat Needs
Illinois law requires that all children younger than eight years of age travel in an appropriate child restraint. Please bring your child’s car seat before your child is scheduled to return home. Car seat fittings and training sessions are available through our Kohl’s Kids Ride Safe Program.
If your child has a special car seat need, please ask your nurse. Our Special Needs Resource Center helps children and families with special car seat needs.
Call our Safety Information Line, 877-277-6543, with questions regarding fitting your child properly into a car seat.
Soon after your child is home, you will receive multiple bills. One bill will be from OSF Saint Francis Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Illinois, this will encompass the hospital charges. If you have questions regarding any of the charges on this bill, please call Patient Accounts at 309-686-6700 or 800-421-5700.
Filling your child’s prescription after a hospital stay can be hard. Let Medi-Park Pharmacy, located on the first floor of Hillcrest Medical Plaza, take the hassle out of getting your child’s new prescriptions filled. Please inform your child’s nurse that you would like to use the Meds to Bedside program and a pharmacy tech will deliver your prescription(s) to your child’s bedside before you leave the hospital. Future refills can then be mailed directly to your home simply by calling the pharmacy once you are ready for the refill. Medi-Park Pharmacy can also flavor any oral medications for a nominal fee. Flavors include cherry, bubble gum and many more!
Patient Satisfaction Surveys
Patient and family input is very important to us as we strive to fulfill our mission daily. So, after you return home we will contact you twice. First you will receive a phone call asking how your child is feeling and if we can answer any questions you may have about new medications or discharge instructions. We will also ask about your satisfaction with the care you and your child received.
Then, a satisfaction survey will be mailed to your home. We ask that you please take a moment to complete the survey and drop it in the mail. The information you share with us helps to improve our service in our efforts to provide the very best care.
When it is time for discharge, hospital personnel will escort you and your child to the main entrance. This is for your child’s comfort and safety
