Emergency Communications Registered Nurse (ECRN)

The OSF East Central Illinois EMS Paramedic Program prepares potential paramedic candidates for certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and Licensure within the State of Illinois.

We adhere to standards in EMS Education as prescribed by the Illinois Department of Public Health and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Summary

Our program utilizes cutting edge technology to provide a classroom experience like no other in our area.

Through the use of evidence-based teaching strategies, the staff at ECIEMS aims to educate and prove competency in Paramedicine through the use of simulation, supplemental educational experiences, and integration of industry-specific quality metrics.

Our paramedic program will utilize a blended learning model in which students will complete interactive online learning assignments, small group discussions, and participate weekly at an in-class session.

Students will also complete a clinical experience where they will rotate through multiple disciplines across different medical facilities to gain a complete picture of the healthcare system.

Finally, the paramedic student will complete the Capstone Field Internship where the student will serve and act as a Team Leader while delivering live patient care.

The Capstone Field Internship serves as a summative evaluation of the cognitive, psychomotor and affective attributes needed to be an effective Team Leader and competent entry-level Paramedic.

In addition to initial education as a Paramedic, candidates will complete and hold certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS).

Program Letter of Review

The OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center d/b/a East Central Illinois EMS Paramedic Program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP Executive Office). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.
