OSF Hospice Home Celebrates One Year Anniversary

3/14/2014 - Peoria, Illinois

Hospice Home | Sister Judith Ann at Blessing CeremonyOSF Home Care Services is proud to recognize the one year anniversary of the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home. Located in Peoria on Route 91 (8630 N. Illinois Route 91), the OSF Hospice Home is a home away from home for terminal patients who:

  • Have symptoms that cannot be managed at home;
  • Have only a short period of time left before they die and are unable to remain in their home;
  • Need brief respite for the primary caregiver

Staff is available 24/7 to provide nursing care, relieve suffering and support family members. The home provides patients and their families the opportunity to focus on their relationship while receiving medical attention.

This is the first hospice home in central Illinois and only the fourth in the state of Illinois. Prior to opening, OSF estimated that nearly 1,200 patients and their families would be served each year by the home. At the one year mark, the OSF Hospice Home has served nearly 375 patients and touched the lives of more than 6,000 patients and families.

Other first year statistics include:

  • Youngest patient = 17 years old
  • Oldest patient = 100 years old
  • Longest patient stay = 70 days
  • 60 volunteers
  • 8,198 volunteer hours (March 2013-February 2014)
  • 65 family members = most family members for one patient at the home
  • Four Pet Companions at the home
