OSF Saint Francis Recognized Again as Top Performer by Joint Commission

11/13/2014 - Peoria, Illinois

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States.

Just one of 1,224 hospitals in the U.S. earning top performer distinction for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance, OSF Saint Francis was recognized for its performance in Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and Surgical Care.

This is the second year OSF Saint Francis has been recognized as a Top Performer in these four areas, one of only 712 hospitals to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past two consecutive years.

The ratings are based on data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2013 calendar year and recognize exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.

As a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures, OSF Saint Francis had to meet three performance criteria based on 2013 accountability including:

  • Achieving cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
  • Achieving performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure where there were at least 30 denominator cases; and
  • Having at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and (within that measure set) all applicable individual accountability measures had a performance rate of 95 percent or above.

“We understand what matters most to patients at OSF Saint Francis is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That is why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Keith Steffen, President and CEO of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. “We are proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire staff.

OSF Saint Francis will be included in The Joint Commission’s “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety” annual report. You can learn more about the Top Performer program, at http://www.jointcommission.org/accreditation/top_performers.aspx.
