OSF St. Joseph Foundation Raising $1.2 Million for “Operating Room of the Future”

9/25/2014 - Bloomington, Illinois

The OSF St. Joseph Foundation is currently raising funds to equip the hybrid operating room at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center with the most advanced imaging technology available. The goal is to raise $1.2 million.

This “operating room of the future” will allow for diagnostic and surgical procedures simultaneously. Patients will not need to schedule a second appointment for surgery or be transferred to another hospital if surgery is needed. A comprehensive hybrid operating room will serve complex cardiovascular needs, but also neurosurgery.

“Our hybrid operating room will be the first and only operating, fully functional imaging and hybrid suite in the region,” said Chad Boore, President, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. “The addition of this hybrid OR demonstrates the commitment OSF St. Joseph Medical Center has to the community to provide world-class care close to home.”

The hybrid operating room at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center will:

  • Be the first universal hybrid operating room in McLean County
  • Result in a faster recovery for patients
  • Increase operating room efficiencies by reducing costs
  • Decrease a patient’s length of stay in the hospital
  • Reduce the opportunity for infections

The addition of the hybrid operating room is resulting in other construction and hospital changes to improve patient care. Private family consultation rooms will be a part of the new surgery area, a larger more centrally-located family waiting area is currently under construction, and a new gift shop and coffee shop will open in October.

Proceeds from this year’s Crystal Ball on Saturday, November 1, will go towards this new imaging equipment.
