CEO Kevin Schoeplein invited to be at White House announcement

OSF Healthcare System CEO Kevin Schoeplein is among a select group of health care leaders invited to Washington, D.C. to be part of the latest national effort to transform and improve health care in the country.

Schoeplein will be at the White House Wednesday, March 25, when President Barack Obama announces the formation of the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network during a 9 a.m. CDT address that can be viewed live at www.whitehouse.gov/live.

On Wednesday afternoon, Schoeplein and OSF HealthCare Central Region CEO Bob Sehring will participate in closed-door sessions with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to begin identifying solutions to explore in the months ahead.

Only about 100 organizations, including providers, health systems, employers and public health agencies, were invited to this inaugural event. The overarching goal is to work together to move the national health care system away from rewarding health providers for the quantity of care they provide and toward rewarding quality. Just as collaboration is essential for quality patient care, it will be the hallmark of this effort.

A Pioneer Accountable Care Organization, OSF HealthCare has been aggressively moving toward fee-for-value models of care for several years, with success measured by the overall health of the patients served and how they were cared for. The goal of all providers within OSF HealthCare is to provide the right care for the right patient at the right time.

Being asked to participate in the Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network by HHS is an extension of the work undertaken by OSF HealthCare earlier this year as part of the Health Care Transformation Task Force. The task force is an elite group of health systems, health insurers, purchasers, employers and patients who are working together to lead sweeping transformation of national health care over the next five years.
