Ken Berkovitz, MD has joined OSF HealthCare as Senior Clinical Vice President for the OSF Cardiovascular Service Line, succeeding Don McElroy, MD, who retired in January.
Prior to joining OSF HealthCare, Dr. Berkovitz was President of Summa Cardiovascular Institute, a large integrated health care system which includes the cardiovascular service line for Summa Health System in Akron, Ohio. He brings with him broad-based experience including developing new programs and services with exceptional clinical excellence; physician recruitment; and, organizational strategic planning, all with the ultimate goal of improving patient care.
“I am interested in new opportunities and wanted to be in a culture that is committed to being at the forefront of cardiovascular services,” said Dr. Berkovitz when asked about coming to OSF HealthCare. “It was obvious and reassuring to me that everyone I met at OSF was committed to advancing health, which is at the core of the OSF HealthCare Vision to lead in the transformation of health care by improving the lives of those served.”
Dr. Berkovitz is an interventional cardiologist with more than twenty years clinical experience and ten years administrative experience for Summa. His efforts have been recognized nationally by the American Heart Association with Summa Akron City Hospital recognized as being among the Top 50 Heart Hospitals according to US News and World Report from 1999-2004.
Dr. Berkovitz earned his Bachelor of Science in biology from Purdue University and his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training in internal medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland and a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He is board certified in interventional cardiology and cardiovascular disease.
