OSF Healthcare System officially welcomed the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR) to the OSF family during a Blessing and Dedication ceremony on Oct. 1, 2015. It will now be known as OSF IPMR.
The process began in April when the two signed a Letter of Intent to affiliate. That was followed by months of due diligence during which each organization learned more about the other, along with discussions on how best to merge the strengths of each and deliver comprehensive services to the community moving forward.
OSF and IPMR share a vision to provide quality care with a focus on the patient. Both are excited about the partnership of two highly respected medical organizations and how it will expand access to quality rehabilitation care.
The long history of OSF and IPMR in central Illinois highlights both organizations’ commitment to provide the best care to the community. This new collaboration will build upon our existing rehabilitation services as we continue to transform health care to improve the lives of those we serve,” said Sister M. Mikela Meidl, OSF HealthCare Executive Vice President.
Being part of a large healthcare system will allow us to expand patient access to specialty services and new technologies with the added benefit of innovative research,” said Rick Zehr, OSF IPMR President. “IPMR and OSF share similar missions and we are confident this will allow us to better serve the community’s rehabilitation needs and continue to promote and support population health and wellness.”
Services will continue to be provided at all previous IPMR locations. IPMR employees were provided regular updates during the affiliation process and will be retained as OSF IPMR staff in roles with comparable benefits and compensation.
The Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR) first opened its doors in 1950. What began as one small non-profit center for physical medicine and rehabilitative care has grown into one of the most comprehensive therapy institutes in the United States. With more than 21 service locations and eight outpatient clinics, IPMR continues to grow and expand its services which include programs such as return to work, senior daycare, wellness, and the certified oncology rehabilitation program Survivor Training and Rehabilitation (STAR). IPMR is a CARF accredited non-profit rehabilitation center.
