Shana Kennon, RN, BSN Emergency Department Nurse Manager and Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for OSF Holy Family Medical Center, will be recognized as one of the 40 under 40 Emerging Nurse Leaders in Illinois.
The 40 under 40 Emerging Nurse Leader award is being sponsored by the Illinois Nurses Foundation and the Illinois Healthcare Action Coalition. The banquet will be held at Rush University Medical Center’s Searle Conference Center in Chicago, Illinois on September 17, 2015.
According to the American Nurses Association of Illinois, the 40 under 40 award recognizes 40 nurses in Illinois under the age of 40, who have shown dedication in their service to the population, the profession and to leadership for the advancement of nursing in Illinois. The award recognizes nurses in the areas of innovation/new knowledge/research, visionary transformational leadership, professional development, exemplary professional practice, community engagement, and policy development.
Shana was nominated by Shelley Wiborg MS, RN CNO and Patty Luker CEO from OSF Holy Family Medical Center for her commitment and dedication to the Emergency Department along with several innovative projects.
Shana developed a Star of the month recognition program for her nurses and physicians. She closely monitors Press Ganey surveys and actively engages patients and their families in improving the patient experience in the Emergency Department and prevention of risk in the department. She organized a "Kids Safe" Day to fit children with Bicycle helmets and equip them with the knowledge of "Stranger Danger" techniques.
Shana is a Regional Medical Emergency Response Team (RMERT) member and stays active in her local church. She is the mother of two beautiful children and takes the opportunity to travel with her husband to build a strong family bond.
