The Spring 2016 Hospital Safety Scores were released this week, and Ottawa’s OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center has earned the highest letter grade. The recipient of an “A” rating, OSF Saint Elizabeth is one of only 50 Illinois hospitals to attain the highest ranking.
Results are published twice a year (fall and spring) by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. Each year, the national nonprofit organization rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections.
“We achieved an ‘A’ rating in the fall 2015 scores as well,” reported OSF Saint Elizabeth President Ken Beutke. “Maintaining a stellar safety record helps to validate the emphasis we place on quality of care for our patients.”
“We continue to look for opportunities to improve safety measures and our standard of care. It’s important to us that every patient receives exceptional service, each and every time,” he said.
OSF Saint Elizabeth has been serving patients in LaSalle County since 1895. With primary service areas of Ottawa and Marseilles, OSF expanded its reach to Streator earlier this year with the addition of OSF Center for Health – Streator, an outpatient facility which operates as an extension of the Ottawa hospital.
Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades available online at www.hospitalsafetyscore.org.
About The Leapfrog Group
