OSF Partners with City of Ottawa for expansion of NCAT for transportation for Streator community

8/11/2016 - Ottawa, Illinois

Medical patients in the Streator area have expanded transportation options thanks to a new collaboration between OSF HealthCare and the City of Ottawa who operates North Central Area Transit (NCAT).

Two additional daily round-trips between OSF Center for Health – Streator and OSF Saint Elizabeth Center in Ottawa have been added to the NCAT schedule. The additional routes are made possible by OSF’s donation of another van to the NCAT fleet. To date, over 75 riders have used the NCAT for OSF-related appointments.

"The City of Ottawa and North Central Area Transit (NCAT) are pleased to announce an innovative transit partnership with OSF, and look forward to assisting them in meeting their transportation needs both now and in the future," says City of Ottawa Commissioner Wayne A. Eickelkraut, Jr.  "OSF is well-known for their passion and commitment to their patients, and it is our goal at NCAT to direct our resources and energies in helping them carry out their mission."

“Transportation in rural America continues to be a problem,” says Streator Mayor, Jimmie Lansford. “The cooperation between OSF and NCAT will help our population meet their health care needs or visit hospitalized friends or family.”

OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center President Ken Beutke says, “We were grateful to learn about the efficient operations that NCAT already had in place for LaSalle County residents. This is a great example of a community partnership and what we can accomplish by working together.”

In addition to residential pick up that begins at 7:00 am, the NCAT shuttle runs door-to-door between OSF Center for Health – Streator and OSF Saint Elizabeth starting at 8 a.m. There is an additional round trip that departs Streator to Ottawa at 2:30 pm. For optimal scheduling, patients needing transportation should call 24 hours in advance. The scheduling number is 877-874-8813. The fee is $5 per ride/$10 round trip between Streator and Ottawa.

We welcome the partnership with OSF that allows us to provide additional transportation options to residents,” says Wayne Czyz, Director of NCAT. “Riders should also rest assured that NCAT will work with them to accommodate the schedule that works best for them when they need to shuttle between OSF facilities.”
