A program offered by the OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Weigh Management Center and created by HMR Weight Management Services (HMR) has been named a Best Weight-Loss Diet in U.S. News & World Reports’ Best Diets of 2016 Rankings. This is the second year in a row HMR has been included in the annual rankings list. The ranking is based on both short and long-term weight-loss.
HMR’s proven methods are based on more than 30 years of weight-loss coaching experience. HMR Programs include an emphasis on eating more fruits and vegetables, increasing physical activity and a focus on turning these new healthy lifestyle skills into habits. Founded by a behavioral psychologist, HMR takes into account aspects of adult learning theory along with years of data collection to create diet programs that are both effective and easy to stick to, helping users solidify new skills and habits they can use for the rest of their lives.
The OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center Weight Management Center has offered the HMR Program for three years to people in the region who are interested in losing weight. It’s the only HMR program in Rockford.
“We believe the HMR Program for weight management is one of the most effective weight-loss options available, and its inclusion in the national rankings again is a reflection that others recognize the value of the program, as well,” said Nathan Hamman, registered dietician, OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. “At OSF, we’ve helped people achieve high rates of compliance with the lifestyle skills that can lead to weight loss and weight-loss maintenance through the HMR Program, which can result in improvement in risk factors for the development of conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure.”
121 participants have enrolled in the HMR program at OSF since it began in January 2013. The average weight loss for women during their first three month of the program is 35.1 pounds and for men, it’s 40.3 pounds. Over the last three years, 10 participants lost more than 100 pounds with the highest total weight loss at 163 pounds.
