OSF Saint Elizabeth Auxiliary Fundraisers
The OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center Auxiliary is hosting two separate fundraisers this month in support of the hospital.
The Auxiliary Gift Shop will be having their annual Mother’s Day Garden Sale beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5. The sale will be staged on the cafeteria patio, just east of the hospital front entrance. A variety of plants will be available for sale while supplies last.
In addition, a Jewelry Sale featuring Lionne Designs is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on Thursday, May 12 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The two-day event will be held in hospital meeting rooms 2 and 3. Customers may preview items online at www.lionnedesigns.com or order in advance using the promo code "osfstelizabeth" at checkout. Sales made through May 12 benefit the Auxiliary.
The Auxiliary celebrated 50 years of service in 2009 and serves to meet the mission of fundraising and generating donations toward purchasing state-of-the-art hospital equipment. The Auxiliary raises money through various fundraisers and business ventures such as the Gift Shop and ReRuns. For more information about either event, call (815) 431-5432.
Advance Care Planning Seminar in Streator
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) – a day to encourage adults to communicate their end-of-life care decisions to family and health care providers – was celebrated last month. However, OSF HealthCare is hoping to highlight the importance of advance care planning year round. As a participating NHDD organization, OSF HealthCare provides this service to patients at no charge.
Advance care planning allows an individual to decide what medical care they would and would not want at the end of life and who can make medical decisions on their behalf should they become unable to make those decisions. Oftentimes, people believe their families know their care wishes, but they do not. It is best to document care wishes while everyone is healthy and thinking clearly.
An informational session will be hosted at OSF Center for Health - Streator from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25. Advance Care Planning facilitators will give an overview of why you should plan ahead and how to do so. They'll also be scheduling appointments to formally document your intentions.
A light lunch will be served beginning at 11:30 followed by the program. Advance registration is requested. To sign up to attend the Streator event, call (815) 431-5499. For more information about documenting your health care decisions, visit www.osfsupportivecare.org or call (815) 431-5476.
Hospital to Host Blood Drive
An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled from 7:15 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center on Tuesday, May 24. Appointments will take priority over walk-in traffic.
Those interested in donating blood are reminded to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating. Donors are also instructed to bring a valid photo ID. Help to streamline the process of blood donation by using our new advance "check in" feature. Visit www.redcrossblood.org/rapidpass for more information.
To schedule an appointment or for questions, please call Sylvia at (815) 433-5260.
