The following items recently made news at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center.

Hospital to Host Blood Drive
An American Red Cross blood drive is scheduled from 7:15 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center on Wednesday, November 2.  Appointments will take priority over walk-in traffic.

Those interested in donating blood are reminded to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water prior to donating.  Donors are also instructed to bring a valid photo ID.  Help to streamline the process of blood donation by using our new advance "check in" feature. OSF Saint Elizabeth Receives “A” Grade
For the third straight year, OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center has earned an “A” rating in the Fall Hospital Safety Grades issued by the Leapfrog Group. Each year, the national nonprofit organization rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections.

The top letter grade is the gold standard measure of patient safety in the United States. OSF Saint Elizabeth is one of fewer than 50 Illinois hospitals to attain the highest ranking.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a public service provided by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog committed to driving quality, safety, and transparency in the U.S. health system. Diabetes Education Offered
A series of three classes offering diabetic education are scheduled at OSF Saint Elizabeth throughout the month of November.  The complimentary sessions will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday evenings, November 14, 21 and 28.

Each session features a different focus ranging from an overview of diabetes and how to use your glucometer to identifying carbohydrate foods and determining portion size.  The staff at OSF Saint Elizabeth will also answer questions and offer guidelines for avoiding complications with diabetes.

The Diabetes Education Series is held quarterly and is open to anyone who may have been newly diagnosed with diabetes or is simply looking for more information.  Friends and family members are also welcome.  Advance registration is requested.  For more information or to register, call (815) 431-5499.
