OSF St. Joseph Medical Center is honored to be named among Becker's Hospital Review’s 2016 list of "100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Heart Programs."
The hospitals included on the annual list are national leaders in multiple aspects of cardiovascular care. They have received recognition for clinical excellence for certain procedures, such as heart bypass and valve surgeries, and treatment of heart failure and heart attack patients. These hospitals also support heart education and disease prevention efforts.
“This list has many of the very best and recognized cardiovascular programs in the country. It is certainly good company to keep,” said Ken Berkovitz, CEO of OSF HealthCare’s Cardiovascular Service Line.
Becker’s Hospital Review cites OSF St. Joseph’s proven track record of cardiac care and its award-winning reputation for its inclusion on this year’s list.
“It is an honor to receive national recognition for the work we do every day,” said Chad Boore, President of OSF St. Joseph Medical Center. “OSF’s investment in cardiovascular services cultivates the best environment possible for our clinical staff. This translates to top-of-the-line patient care that truly sets St. Joseph apart.”
At OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, 90% of coronary artery bypass surgery cases are done as beating heart surgery, so patients avoid the heart lung machine. Heart care specialists also take a team approach between the cardiovascular surgeons, hospitalists and staff to treat each patient
OSF St. Joseph has been recognized multiple times this year for its nationally ranked cardiovascular care. Truven Health Analytics named OSF St. Joseph Medical Center one of the nation's 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals for 2016. It also received Magnet accreditation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. In August, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center earned a three-year certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
