OSF Recognized for Accountable Care

9/06/2016 - Peoria, Illinois

OSF HealthCare has been selected as one of 100 Accountable Care Organizations to Know by Becker's Hospital Review. The listing, released today online, applauds health care organizations for their efforts to significantly improve quality of care, care management, patient satisfaction, and cost savings.

OSF HealthCare created an ACO under the CMS Pioneer model in 2011 and landed its first commercial accountable care agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois for 40,000 beneficiaries in 2013. The ACO earned the fifth highest quality score — 90.3 percent — among Pioneer ACOs in 2014. OSF Healthcare System ACO transitioned into a CMS Next Generation ACO in 2016, one of only 18 initially in the country.

“We are excited to have received this distinction as an Accountable Care Organization to Know because it means we’re making progress in our goal to transform the way health care is delivered in our communities,” said Randy Billings, Senior Vice President of Managed Care and ACO for OSF HealthCare.

“Since 2011, we have been able to drive significant improvements for those we serve by connecting our full network of health and wellness services to help each person live healthier, fuller lives. We intend to keep this momentum going and extend our Ministry where value-based care touches even the most vulnerable patient populations.”

ACOs cover approximately 28.3 million lives, according to January 2016 data from Leavitt Partners. This is the fifth year Becker's Hospital Review has published its list of ACOs to know.

ACOs were selected for inclusion based on a number of factors, including quality and cost performance, participation in CMS' Next Generation Model, the Pioneer Model, advanced tracks of the Medicare Shared Savings Program and if it has recently struck new commercial agreements. ACOs are presented in alphabetical order and are either listed by formal name of the ACO or, if the organization has several contracts, by name of the health system or provider group associated with those ACOs.
