First DAISY & Sunflower Winners of 2017 Named

1/16/2017 - Ottawa, Illinois

  • Brett Gibson

  • Tara Damron

Two caregivers at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa are the latest recipients of awards introduced last fall to recognize exemplary staff members. Both were honored within their respective departments during a brief ceremony held Thursday.

Brett Gibson, RN, a charge nurse with the hospital’s Medical/Surgical unit was given the DAISY Award, a national award program recognizing exceptional nurses.  A Sheffield resident, Gibson has been employed with OSF HealthCare since 2011.

The winning nomination included a note describing Gibson as “an exceptional caregiver to my mother.  He was extremely patient and spent quality time explaining and answering questions regarding rehabilitation, keeping my mom’s safety and needs as his top priority.  He spent extra time supporting my family members in a very caring manner, making us feel like he was another member of our family.”

The Sunflower Award, a recognition program offered to non-nursing staff with OSF HealthCare, was given to Tara Damron, an MRI Technician with the hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging department. On staff since 2008, Damron resides in Marseilles.

A note submitted as part of Damron’s nomination reads, “I will be forever grateful for the comfort, kindness, and sense of relief Tara provided me with throughout my experience.  It is care like this that ensures me I am receiving the best!”

OSF HealthCare encourages patients, family members and fellow staff to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award to honor their dedication. More than 50 names were submitted for consideration since the first round of awards were given in October.
