OSF HealthCare Saint James – John W. Albrecht Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). MRI is a noninvasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. This is the first ACR review and accreditation of MRI services for OSF HealthCare Saint James, which installed a new fixed-site MRI suite in 2014, following more than a decade of mobile MRI services on the campus.
“The ACR accreditation is validation to the public of the great images our technologists have been providing for quite some time. We are lucky to have such a dedicated crew that work hard to achieve and maintain this high degree of quality. As a team, they have refined their skills and processes to provide the best possible care and patient experience,” shared Matt Burton, Manager of Medical Imaging at OSF HealthCare Saint James. “The ACR surveyors not only granted accreditation, but found no suboptimal findings of any kind during their survey. That is remarkable and a result we are extremely proud to share with the communities we serve,” Burton added.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
