Healthy You, a local weight-loss challenge that began in January, has concluded.  Results were announced at a brief award ceremony honoring the winners.

Offered as a collaboration between OSF HealthCare and the Ottawa and Streator YMCAs, the 12-week program encouraged participants to join teams and engage in a friendly battle to lose the highest percentage of body weight. Participants had the option of weighing in each Wednesday at a variety of locations including:

  • OSF HealthCare Center for Health—Streator
  • OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center
  • Ottawa YMCA
  • Streator Family YMCA
  • OSF HealthCare Medical Group – Marseilles
  • OSF HealthCare Medical Group – Ottawa South
  • OSF HealthCare Medical Group - Wenona

Five individuals from the team “VCC – 1” took home top prize for the highest team percentage of weight loss at the conclusion of the challenge.  The following individuals were awarded gift cards: Julie Eurich, Robert Turner, Krista Turner, Larry McCormick, and Gina McCormick.

The second place team “VCC – 2” consisted of Paul Frazier, Anthony Marzetta, Doug Melvin, Sandy Melvin, and Michael Slagel.  Coming in third were Theresa Johnston, Becky O’Dell, Deb Purcell, Tammy McCormick, and Jana Young of “Chunky Chicks.”

The first place award for individual weight loss was presented to Larry McCormick who tallied a 25.17% loss.  He was the recipient of a cash prize.  Second-place finisher Becky O’Dell came in at a 19.79% loss, with Doug Melvin rounding out the top three at 19.26%.

A total event breakdown is shown by the numbers:

  • 283 original registrants
  • 186 participants at program conclusion
  • 2,444.1 total pounds lost
  • 4.10 percentage of weight lost

The Healthy You program is now in its sixth year and is expected to return again in early 2019.
