A Registered Nurse, a Respiratory Technician, and a Patient Care Technician were three recent recipients of the DAISY and Sunflower Awards offered by OSF HealthCare.  All three caregivers were honored during a brief ceremony held on May 24, 2018.

Andrea Foster, RN, of Ottawa was given the DAISY Award which recognizes exceptional nurses nationwide on behalf of the DAISY Foundation.  Foster has been employed at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center since 2016 and works within the Family Birth Center.

A patient of the Family Birth Center who was being induced for labor submitted Foster’s name for the award.  An excerpt from the nomination reads, “I had been very nervous switching doctors and hospitals for our final baby, but Andrea made it all worth it. She listened to my fears upon arrival and not only did she validate them, but helped me through one of the most vulnerable times in my life.”

The Sunflower Award, a recognition program offered to non-nursing staff with OSF HealthCare, was given to Bonnie Hiller, Respiratory Technician, of Ottawa. Hiller has been employed with the hospital since 1989 and works within the Respiratory Therapy Department.

The nomination from a fellow Mission Partner offered the following note, “One day the department was exceptionally busy, without hesitation, Bonnie helped answer call lights, helped reposition and clean up patients. She went above and beyond her job expectations to make everyone else's job easier. This was one specific event but this is how she is every day! She is always looking out for every patient.”

Paulyn Ward, Patient Care Technician, of Morris, also received the Sunflower Award. Ward started her employment with the hospital in 2017 and works within the Medical/Surgical Department.

The nomination from the wife of a patient offered the following note, “Paulyn was always kind and thoughtful…she is always thinking ahead, very organized and exceptional. You’re lucky to have her on your staff. She always maintained privacy, safety, and always was cheerful and upbeat, never left the room without asking if there was something else she could do.”

OSF HealthCare encourages patients, family members and fellow staff to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award to honor their dedication. For more information about the DAISY and Sunflower Awards, or to submit a nomination, click here.
