The OSF HealthCare Foundation has announced Dr. John Vozenilek, vice president and chief medical officer of simulation for Jump Simulation, a part of OSF Innovation, as the 2018 Pearl Award recipient. The Pearl Award, established by OSF HealthCare Foundation, recognizes contributions to philanthropic excellence, compassionate care, and visionary leadership that will transform health care.
“Most of the work I do is centered on realistically simulating the clinical work that touches people’s lives every day,” said Vozenilek. “If the work I do leads to care that is safer, easier, more rewarding and meaningful, then I have done the right thing.”
The OSF HealthCare Foundation honored four leaders, one from each region, during the Second Annual Culture of Philanthropy Celebration November 1. The Pearl Award was presented for the first time, with the recipient selected from the honorees.
Northern Region: Dr. Kim Johnson, OSF St. Francis Hospital, Escanaba, MI
Western Region: Dr. Jim Piephoff, OSF Saint Anthony’s Health Center, Alton, IL
Central Region: Dr. Vozenilek, OSF Innovation, Peoria, IL
Eastern Region: Dr. Jo-Mel Labayog, OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, Danville, IL
The Pearl Award was established in recognition of Dr. Rick Pearl, former director of pediatric trauma and surgeon in-chief at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois and current director of surgical simulation at Jump. In recognition of Dr. Pearl’s profound demonstration of the Culture of Philanthropy and his relationships and involvement with the Foundation, the distinguished award was created.
“There are serious problems that need to be solved in health care, but we can’t do it alone” said Vozenilek. “We seek partnerships with our Mission Partners and those outside of our health care system and industry to create solutions that have never been thought of before. We need philanthropic support to follow through with our vision of transforming care for our patients.”
The OSF HealthCare Foundation encourages Mission Partners to nominate a leader in their community. To submit an honoree for 2019 and to learn more about the Culture of Philanthropy Celebration, please visit https://www.osfhealthcarefoundation.org/culture-of-philanthropy/
