OSF Saint Francis Offers Life-Saving Classes to the Public

8/05/2019

OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center is leading an effort to save lives through a series of classes designed to teach the public how to provide vital initial response in an emergency situation. The Stop the Bleed classes are part of a national campaign to address the most common cause of preventable trauma death: uncontrolled bleeding.

Participants will learn basic lifesaving bleeding control measures, including how to apply a tourniquet and use of pressure bandages.

“Twenty percent of people who have died from traumatic injuries could have survived with quick bleeding control. The more people that know how to do it, the more lives saved,” said Troy Erbentraut, director of the Office of Preparedness and Response at OSF HealthCare.

The classes are free and open to the public. To register, go to www.eventbrite.com and search for OSF Stop the Bleed. Classes will be offered August 14, August 29, September 27, and October 3.
