A Registered Nurse and a Lab Compliance Project Coordinator were two recent recipients of the DAISY and Sunflower Awards offered by OSF HealthCare. Both caregivers were honored during a brief ceremony held in July.

Amanda Davis, RN, of Ottawa, was given the DAISY Award which recognizes exceptional nurses nationwide on behalf of the DAISY Foundation.  Davis has been employed at OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center for 7 years and works within the Medical/Surgical Inpatient Department.

Davis positively impacted a patient who was admitted to the Medical/Surgical Inpatient Department and stated, “…Everyone who took care of me was wonderful, but I especially remember Amanda. She delivers care in a calm and caring manner and always made me feel like I was her only patient, even though I’m sure she was juggling a million things at once! Amanda took time to explain things to me and was always a professional. Amanda definitely lives the OSF mission by delivering care with the greatest care and love.”

The Sunflower Award, a recognition program offered to non-nursing Mission Partners with OSF HealthCare, was given to Jean Sumortin of Ottawa. Sumortin has been employed with the hospital for over 26 years and currently works within the hospital’s Laboratory Department as a Lab Compliance Project Coordinator.

A mother of a newborn patient stated, "We received a call late on a Friday afternoon that labs were needed on our baby. The lab department at SEMC was very accommodating, especially Jean….She made sure that they had everything that was needed and prepared to draw the blood sample. Jean was professional, caring, and gentle through this process. Not to mention her skills, she got all the blood that was needed with just one stick of the baby. Jean deserves to be recognized for the great work that she does. She is an asset to the lab team! Thank you to Jean for the great care you provided to our baby!"

The OSF Grateful Patient Program encourages patients, family members, and fellow Mission Partners to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award to honor their dedication.
