Local Students Learn Hands-Only CPR

The heart team at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois have teamed up with area first responders to make Washington Middle School and Beverly Manor Elementary Heart Safe schools. The program is part of a grant funded through Illinois Heart Rescue.

OSF HealthCare representatives will be on hand along with local fire departments to train the entire student body and staff in hands-only CPR. Hands-Only CPR is done without mouth-to-mouth breaths, and can be administered in two easy steps: calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest. Immediate CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival, according to the American Heart Association.
