OSF HealthCare has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography at OSF Medical Group – Ottawa and 3D mammography at OSF Center for Health – Streator as the result of an extensive review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).  Mammography is a specific type of breast imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to detect breast cancer in women who do not have signs or symptoms of the disease. 3D mammography is an imaging test that combines multiple breast x-rays to create a three-dimensional picture of the breast.

“With the completion of both the mammography and 3D mammography ACR accreditations, our patients can expect to receive accurate imaging results from high-quality, evidence-based care,” stated Thomas Dziorny, Regional Director of Diagnostic Imaging for OSF HealthCare. “I would like to thank Samantha Miller and Kristi Reinhold in Streator and Becky Boulden, Lori Hemby, and Kathy Ernst in Ottawa for their dedication to imaging excellence. They are incredible and compassionate technologists who were instrumental in the ACR accreditation processes.”

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards, following a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.

OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center has ACR Accreditations with certifications in 3D Mammography, Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT), Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound.
