OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center is calling attention to the importance of mammograms by bringing light to the fight during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. About 1 in 8 U.S women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. Early detection is one of the most effective weapons in the fight against this disease
The medical center will project pink light in the shape of a cancer awareness ribbon on the outside of the hospital all month long. The display will be visible from I-74 on the west side of the hospital.
“There’s no one way to prevent breast cancer,” says Cindy Martin, director of Women’s Services. “But we do know that early detection is key, and many women have no symptoms. That’s why screening mammograms are so important. We hope this light will serve as a reminder of that.”
OSF Saint Francis offers walk-in screening mammograms every Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the medical center. Park in Medi-Park 2 and enter at Zone 2 registration. To schedule an appointment, call (309) 683-5522.
