(Streator, IL / October 5, 2020)– Local access to cancer resources continues to be a reality for the Streator community thanks to Karen Ranger, a passionate community member, and the combined efforts of OSF HealthCare, Park Presbyterian Church, and Streator Drugs. The Cancer Resource Center and Wig Boutique cut the ribbon on their new offices on Friday, October 2, at OSF Center for Health – Streator.

“I am a three-time cancer survivor, and I felt this service needed to be continued,” stated Ranger, who then connected with OSF HealthCare and her church, Park Church, to begin discussing how to continue the resource center.

The Cancer Resource Center and Wig Boutique provides non-medical care to cancer patients and their families, free of charge. Services include wigs, hats, scarfs, breast pillows, mastectomy bras and forms, lap blankets, wig stands, and educational information. The Cancer Resource Center and Wig Boutique is funded by the Park Presbyterian Church and the mastectomy bras and forms were donated by Streator Drugs.

“We are proud of this new partnership, and to me, this is a perfect example of the community coming together through shared commitment and collaboration to meet a health-related need,” stated Don Damron, Regional Vice President of OSF HealthCare. “We saw a gap in services available to the Streator community, and together, we took action.”

Recognizing that OSF HealthCare could not create a culture for better health in Streator on its own, the organization began partnering with other agencies to ensure access to services closer to home. “Our vision for OSF Center for Health – Streator was to create a healthy village – and thanks to partnerships like this, it’s becoming a reality,” says Damron.

The Cancer Resource Center and Wig Boutique is located on the third floor of the OSF Center for Health – Streator, in suites 305 and 306. Volunteers will be providing services Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Cancer Resource Center and Wig Boutique may be reached at (815) 673-5620.
