I’ve been a registered nurse for 30+ years and an advanced practice nurse since May 2007. The majority of my practice has been in the acute care setting at OSF Saint Francis, caring for patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular, renal, and pulmonary diseases.

I accepted the APN position in Palliative Care in January of 2008, when the service was brand new.  My previous experience has been very valuable as I assist patients and families deal with the physical, emotional, and spiritual suffering that often accompanies chronic progressive/life-limiting diseases.

I work with a board-certified internal medicine physician who has several years experience managing multiple medical problems and has served on the Ethics Committee at our hospital. Our team also consists of a licensed counselor and a member of pastoral services who provide added psychosocial and spiritual care. I attended an End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) course offered by the City of Hope that provides specialized training and certification as a trainer in end-of-life care.

I also participate in meetings of the OSF Supportive Care Council at our facility as they make efforts to improve advance care planning in the community. I also completed a post-masters program in hospice and palliative medicine at George Washington University in Washington, DC and am board-certified as an Advanced Certified Hospice & Palliative Care Nurse.
