Philosophy of Care Health care is a partnership. Patients and I work together to achieve the goal of vibrant health. This partnership is based on mutual respect, responsibility and open communication. I love to combine my expertise and caring to create the best possible outcomes for patients.
Cynthia started her medical career as an emergency room registered nurse, but her love of learning drove her back to school to further her education and seek out more professional responsibility.
“I’m passionate about learning and becoming the best I can be, so I returned to University of Illinois at Chicago in 1993 to become a nurse practitioner,” Cynthia said. “Although nurse practitioners have been around since the mid-‘60s, in 1993 there weren’t many around, so I’ve been a trailblazer and I love it.”
She joined both OSF HealthCare and Saint Anthony College of Nursing in 2011 so she could combine two of her joys: the teaching and mentoring of future nurse practitioners, and providing primary patient care.
Cynthia grew up in Aurora, Illinois, but Rockford has been her home since 1974. She is married to a wonderful husband, with whom she has three adult children and two grandsons. She likes riding her bicycle along the Kishwaukee River Bike Path, spending time with family and travelling. She also plays piano for masses at St. Rita Catholic Church and St. James Catholic Church.
When it comes to patient care, Cynthia begins with listening. She likes to hear the patient share their concerns so she and the patient can prioritize those concerns.
“I love to teach and make sure patients have a say in their treatment plan,” Cynthia said. “I also make sure they understand their condition, their medications and have all their questions answered.”
The Patient Rating score is based on responses given during the CGCAHPS Patient Experience Survey. Responses are measured up to a 10 point scale and then translated to a 5 point scale in order to display results for a 5 star rating.
Comments are also gathered from the same survey and displayed in their entirety with the exception of any language that may be considered slander, libel or contain private health information, which will be removed prior to publishing the comments.
