Philosophy of Care I remind myself before greeting my patient that I am entering into a privileged encounter with a unique person created in the image and likeness of God. I also try to be aware of a patient’s spiritual needs, as well, since each aspect of well-being affects the others.

Dr. Hook has wanted to be a doctor since childhood, but he “caught the flying bug” as a teenager and subsequently joined the Air Force as an officer and a pilot. When his grandfather suffered a heart attack, the hospital experience rekindled Dr. Hook’s interest in medicine, and he soon pursued admission to medical school.
Originally on track to become an emergency room physician, Dr. Hook discovered during medical school a passion for the specialty of family medicine. He liked the continuity and the relationships you can develop when treating people on an ongoing basis.
Family is important to Dr. Hook. He has a special interest in natural family planning, and has trained as a natural family planning medical consultant with expertise in the Creighton Model.
“What I love about family medicine is right in the specialty's title: taking care of families,” Dr. Hook said. “I love participating in the care of all ages, and there is something very special about taking care of three or more generations in one family.
Dr. Hook is married. He and his wife have eight children.
In his spare time he likes to take advantage of the Upper Peninsula’s many outdoor seasonal activities.
