From a very young age, Rachel was drawn to the nursing profession and the art of caring for others. “It always felt like a natural fit for me,” she said.

She chose to specialize in endocrinology due to an interest in diabetes management. “Diabetes can be a very complex problem for some to manage, but we can work together to make it easier on your daily life,” Rachel said. “I love the ability to improve the quality of life for patients experiencing diabetic complications such as painful neuropathy, chronic skin issues or burdensome medication regimens.”

Rachel grew up in New Mexico and after marrying her high school sweetheart, found herself moving around due to her husband’s commitment to the U.S. Army. “I’ve called many states home over the years,” she said. “However, none of those places ever felt as much like home as Illinois. My favorite thing about Galesburg is how much charm and character the town has.”

She was drawn to OSF HealthCare due to the Mission of serving all in need. “I love the passion in which each employee seeks to fulfill the Mission,” she said. “From the first employee I met, I knew this was a place that truly valued serving others.”

In describing her approach to care, Rachel looks back at her first day as a nurse practitioner. “As my mentor was giving me a tour, she asked me what the most important thing in the room was,” Rachel said. “As I looked around and contemplated her answer, she walked over, sat down in the chair next to the table and said, ‘It’s the chair. This is where you will begin to help them. This is where you will listen to their story, their struggles and their accomplishments. There will never be anything more important than genuinely hearing what a patient has to tell you.’ My approach to care is based on that moment.”

Rachel is married to Raymond, and they have two children, Christian and Emma. When not working she enjoys photography and kayaking and has a love for coffee and cupcakes.
