Since he was a kid James Plasky has wanted to help others, so getting into medicine was pretty natural for him. He chose to pursue primary care because he believes in the importance of disease prevention and helping people stay healthy.
As a member of an interdisciplinary team, his focus on care is very patient-centered. He started his medical career as a registered nurse, which he said trained him to treat patients holistically, not just their ailment.
“The most important member of our care team is the patient,” he said. “They help drive our focus and goals of care. I like to get to know my patients’ hopes and dreams, as they often help us to determine the best course of action. Treating patients is not just about treating disease, it is about treating the whole person.”
He believes in OSF HealthCare and its commitment to providing an environment that supports physical, mental and spiritual healing to better meet the needs of our patients.
“I enjoy the diversity of our care team and patient population,” he said. “The unique offerings a Catholic-based health care system can offer our community outshines our regional competition. Family and community are the cornerstones to our Mission of serving everyone with the greatest care and love.”
James is happily married to his high school sweetheart and the couple has three very active boys.
He and his family love to camp, hike, ride bikes and explore the great outdoors. Each year they take a family trip to a different state or national park. He also enjoys painting in his free time and listening to local performers at the many summer events in the region.
