Diana Olsen is a native of Yorkville, Illinois. She has always been interested in science and she got a bachelor’s degree in biology with the goal of pursing some sort of science-related profession. However, she changed her mind and decided to enter nursing school.
“With a nursing background, I believe in treating people holistically,” she said. “I feel that our health is based off of mind, body and spirit, which requires a balance. I believe in open communication with my patients and creating a health care plan that is safe and meets the patient’s personal needs.”
She chose Family Medicine as a specialty because it fits with her holistic approach to health. Being a primary care provider, it is important to treat a broad range of factors throughout the lifespan of a patient. That requires building a relationship with people.
“Building relationships with the patient and their families is the best part of what I do,” she said. “Empowering a family to improve their health as a unit improves the whole family. Personally, the most amazing moments are when I see my patients out of the medical setting and they are doing 100 times better from when I saw them last.”
Diana believes in the team at OSF HealthCare, where teamwork is prioritized to do what is best for every patient.
She is married, has a child and loves to travel. On her honeymoon, she and her husband traveled through France and Italy with just a ruck sack on their backs.
“We love discovering on our own time and just getting lost,” Diana said. “Sometimes the biggest losses lead to the greatest experiences.”
