Julie Gifford grew up in Urbana, Illinois, where she began her nursing career.
She knew after completing a clinical rotation at OSF HealthCare Medical Group – Chenoa that she wanted to be an OSF HealthCare Mission Partner.
“OSF HealthCare provides evidence-based and patient-centered health care, which is why I wanted to work here,” she said. “I have lived in a community served by OSF HealthCare and I have experienced the philosophy of care first-hand.”
As a child, and even into adulthood, Julie dealt with chronic illness. It’s that experience that drew her to medicine.
“The many health care professionals I have known over the years affected me personally and professionally,” she said. “Health care has afforded me the opportunity to change for the better the lives of patients and their families.”
She decided to specialize in family medicine because it allows here to work with patients across their lifespan.
“Family practice enables me to work with children and adults alike,” Julie said. “Working in primary care means a provider can teach folks about preventive care to help them manage their chronic conditions.”
Patient education plays a large role in what Julie does. “I have always encouraged patients to be involved in their care, which helps me form the plan,” she said. “Creating an open, therapeutic relationship with each patient during each visit is also very important to me as an advanced practice provider.”
Julie and her husband, Ron, have two sons, Owen and Quinn. They are avid Illinois State University and Normal West High School sports fans.
When not working, Julie enjoys crocheting, reading, gardening, landscaping and, as her family would say, “thinking up projects to complete on the house.”
