Critical Care

OSF HealthCare lung and pulmonology providers work extensively with inpatients – individuals who require overnight hospital stays.

We do critical care rounds in all of the Intensive Care Units (ICU), ensuring patients are able to breathe.

Some of our inpatients are in the hospital for observation, intervention and other treatment related to lung disorders.

OSF HealthCare believes in a strong, multidisciplinary team approach to treating patients, and we work closely with other specialists to provide the best possible care.

For example, if a cardiac patient has difficulty breathing, our pulmonologists provide expertise in ventilator management.

We are skilled in ECMO (extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation), which is used to pump oxygen into the blood when a patient loses lung function during surgery.
