Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy Services
Our skilled Physical and Occupational Therapist in orthopedic and neurological impairments have the resources to assist the injured work back to work. Following the completion of traditional outpatient therapy, the therapist can provide key information to the referring physician on the workers abilities to return to work or the need for ongoing care in our work conditioning program.
Job Function Analysis (JFA)
The JFA is a structured process for looking at the physical requirements for a job. The JFA identifies essential functions and critical demands of the job. During the JFA, we take all of the appropriate measurements such as forces, distances, repetitions and durations. With the completion of a JFA, it allows us to make appropriate recommendations for:
- Develop a Functional Job Description
- Develop a Job Function Test
- Ergonomic Recommendations
Job Function Test (JFT)
The JFT is a set of activities that simulate the physical requirements of the job. The JFT is completed by a trained therapist to assess:
- A new hires ability to meet the physical requirements of the job.
- When an employee is trying to return to work following an injury to determine if restrictions/modifications are or are not needed.
Overall, the JFT has a positive return on investment at a 3 to 4 dollars on every dollar spent. Without completing a JFT, a work related injury is more likely to occur. Assessing an injured employee abilities to return to work, will provide valuable information on restrictions or modifications for the injured work to return safely.
Functional Capacity Assessment (FCA)
A FCA is an objective test performed one-on-one between an evaluator and client to determine an individual’s ability to perform work related tasks. The one or two day standardized test contains three essential sections; physical examination, material handling, and positional tolerances. During testing, the client’s physical abilities are tested to a safe maximum level as determined by client’s graded physiological responses. The results from the test are used in comparison to the job description provided by the present or past employer. From the results, recommendations for restrictions, modifications, or job transferring can be determined to assist in returning to work.
Work Conditioning Program
Our work conditioning program is designed to return the injured employee to work via an individualized and goal orientated approach. Our program consists of:
- Specific strengthening and conditioning to the injured area
- Overall strengthening and conditioning of the body
- Work simulation tasks
- Body mechanics education
Our work conditioning program is 5 days per week, 3-5 hours per day. Our goal is to return the worker back to work as effectively and efficiently as possible with the confidence and capacity to function at their previous job. We reach this goal by working with the worker, employer, case manager, insurance adjustor, and referring physician to ensure that all parties are working towards the same goal for efficient case resolution.
Our ergonomic assessment is an objective study of how employees work. The assessment helps identify the ergonomic risks such as repetitive tasks that can cause strains, improper work area setup, and improper use of tools, which can result in the development of work-related musculoskeletal disorders.
