Giving and Volunteering

SAMc-burn-unit-stathis-poulakidas-md.jpg Dr. Stathis Poulakidas The need for burn treatment and services requires an expansion of our burn facilities. We now treat more than 200 burn patients per year. Just 10 years ago, we treated just over 40 patients in a year. The average stay of a patient is 10 days.

We handle 1,000 clinic visits per year on top of that. Together with our excellent community of caregivers, having the northern Illinois region’s ONLY burn unit enhances the care and overall patient experience we provide. We treat burn patients from all over northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, eastern Iowa and the Chicago area, as well as downstate Illinois.

“The importance of support for the burn unit is paramount in ensuring safety for the citizens of the northern and western regions of the state,” said Dr. Stathis Poulakidas, medical director of the burn unit at OSF Saint Anthony. “Support helps patients and their families during a terrible crisis."

Community support assists with key elements such as a new burn unit, surgical instrumentation and needed supplies. This will hopefully allow for an eventual return to normalcy for these wonderful families."
