Preparing for Your Child's Surgery
The staff at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center understand the stress surgery places on families, particularly when it involves children. That is why we want to make sure you have the resources you need to prepare for your child's surgery.
Children have their own special needs, and we strive to address all of those needs — physical, emotional and spiritual — but the truth is that you know your child better than anyone, and being well-prepared for your child's surgery can make all the difference in his or her experience.
Schedule a Pre-operation Tour
Research shows that children who know what to expect are better able to cope with the stress of hospitalization. Our Pre-operation Safari Tour helps decrease stress and anxiety related to procedures by providing a fun learning environment in which children can explore and ask questions.
Tours are limited to two families and begin at the front desk of the hospital
For more information or to schedule a tour, contact Jeanie Sullivan, child life specialist, 815-227-2055.
To help prepare you and your child for what to expect on the day of your child's surgery, watch a young girl go through the process of having surgery.
