Cardiac Rehabilitation

We have a cardiac rehabilitation facility with more patients under our program of care than anywhere else in the area. Cardiac rehabilitation is a doctor-supervised program for people who have most kinds of heart disease.  Rehabilitation can often improve functional capacity, reduce symptoms, and create a sense of well-being for patients.

Patients may enter cardiac rehab at any one of the three phases. The goal of the program is for the patient to return to an active, healthier life through exercise and lifestyle changes.

Phase I (Inpatient)
Cardiac rehab staff assist hospitalized patients with education and an exercise program.

Phase II (Outpatient)
Patients return to the OSF Saint Francis Cardiac Rehab Program after discharge and participate in a closely monitored workout program consisting of cardiac exercise and strength training.

Medical Rehab (Formerly Phase III Maintenance)
Patients begin an ongoing exercise program at the RiverPlex Recreation and Wellness Center to facilitate independence and maintenance of their best level of strength and endurance.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Phase II is offered for patients with chronic lung disease or lung impairment.
