The physical therapy staff at OSF Rehabilitation is there for you when getting around starts becoming difficult, whether that’s from surgery, pain, weakness, or a combination.

The physical therapists are key members of your health care team. They have specialized training to help you relieve pain and improve movement and function so you can return to prior work and recreational activities.

If you have been hospitalized, they will work with physicians and other team members to improve your function, train family members, help plan for discharge and arrange for follow-up care.

Through proper evaluation and individualized treatment programs, physical therapists can treat existing problems and help prevent future injuries or health issues.

Who Is It For?

You may need physical therapy following surgery, injury, trauma, onset of neurological disorder or onset of pain and is frequently required following a stroke, brain injury or cardiovascular disease.

In addition, physical therapy can help with:

  • Joint injuries and joint replacements
  • Developmental disabilities in children

How Does Physical Therapy Work?

Physical therapists conduct a thorough evaluation using medical history, review of body systems, physical examination and a variety of evaluation methods.

Preparing for Physical Therapy

You will need a physician’s referral to set up an initial evaluation appointment.

What to Bring

Please bring your insurance card and a photo ID. Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

When to Arrive

Arrive about 15 minutes prior to your scheduled visit to complete your registration process.

For chidlren under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must be present for the initial appointment.

What to Expect

The first visit will take a little longer, approximately 45 minutes to an hour. This provides the therapist time to talk with you and gather information and measurements.

The therapist may give you a home exercise program to help get you started on your road to recovery.
