Exclusive Sponsor of Go Red for Women™ in McLean County
The American Heart Association® Go Red for Women™ campaign, with its signature Red Dress, is the most well-known symbol of heart disease in women. OSF St. Joseph Medical Center has teamed up with the American Heart Association® as the exclusive sponsor of Go Red for Women™ in McLean County. The goal of our partnership is to ensure all women in the Bloomington-Normal area know about the major risk factors of heart disease.
The Go Red For Women movement kicks off American Heart Month by celebrating Wear Red Day on the first Friday in February every year. OSF St. Joseph also hosts a "Breakfast in Red" each year, drawing awareness to heart disease and stroke in women.
“More women than men die of heart disease and stroke,” said Anitha Perinchery, MD, of HeartCare Midwest. “The Go Red For Women movement empowers women to learn their major risk factors of heart disease, and OSF is proud to be part of that.”
Since the Go Red for Women movement began, more than 627,000 women’s lives have been saved, but the fight is far from over. The most important goal of Go Red For Women is for women to learn their risks of heart disease.
“Women are often busy taking care of others and don’t take time for their own health,” said Perinchery. “Learn your risk factors. Are you at risk for diabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol? It’s time to find out and take charge of your heart health, because if you aren’t healthy, you can’t make sure everyone else is.”
OSF St. Joseph is proud to sponsor Go Red For Women, which empowers women to take charge of their heart health. Our Women Heart Ambassadors' Mission is to raise awareness and educate women about how to control the risks of heart disease and stroke.
