Interpreter Services

OSF St. Mary Medical Center has a policy to assure that all patients who are deaf, hard of hearing, have speech impairment, visual impairment, or who have Limited English Proficiency have an effective means of communication and are not limited in their access to health care.

Cost

There is no charge to patients for interpreter services, and services shall be provided in a timely fashion for the purpose of achieving communication between patients and staff.

Minors

All patients and parents of patients who are minors will be assessed for ability to communicate through identification of primary language spoken and/or hearing impairments. 

When a patient is unable to effectively communicate, auxiliary aides and/or services will be provided.  This includes qualified interpreters, assistive listening devices, note takers, written material, and telephone devices.
