Live and on-demand Jump STEAM at Home courses are led by education specialists who come from a variety of health care professions.

If you choose to sign up for a live course, you will need a video chat capable computer or mobile device, a free Zoom account, internet connection and a space to conduct experiments. Upon registration, Jump will send you what you need to know about the Zoom platform. You will also be provided a Jump STEAM kit that includes tools to be used in hands-on activities. It is necessary for an adult to supervise these exercises.

In this take home lab, you will look at the diversity of life in the deep dark ocean by dissecting a foot-long, color changing, beaked, inking squid. Then you’ll compare it to the anatomical benefits of being a jawless lamprey whose suction-cup mouth is ringed with tiny sharp teeth, a crab that uses its claws to manipulate its food, and a starfish that projects its stomach over its prey to digest it outside its body.

KIT INCLUDES CRAB, LAMPREY, SPONGE, SQUID AND STARFISH SPECIMENS, TOOLS AND INSTRUCTIONS TO ACCESS THE RECORDED VIRTUAL DISSECTION SESSION.

Get a glimpse of what medical students learn about the human body at the most fundamental level.

Saturday, April 8: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Kit Cost: $65

STEAM Saturday Mini Med School will provide attendees with a glimpse of what medical students learn about the human body at the most fundamental level.The course has been designed to encourage middle school aged students to consider an educational pathway to the medical fields by giving learners an introspective look at all 11 systems of the human body.

This half day, hands-on learning opportunity involves brief lectures followed by interactive sessions that include dissecting of the anatomy and testing the physiology in laboratory and clinical scenarios at a world-class medical simulation center.

The course will also motivate learners to take an introspective look at their own health by using clinical tools and real human and animal specimens to discover what’s happening in their own body to understand the importance of making healthy choices.

Get a deeper look into med school and the human body while exploring pathways into the medical field.

Cost: $2,500

Open to highly motivated undergraduates, this program is designed to provide pre-medical students with a highly immersive clinical experience. During the two week course, students will experience several clinical and simulation-based learning modules and activities to enhance preparation for medical school including:

 

• Clinical Mandatories (in preparation for the clinical immersion experiences)
• Immersive High Fidelity Simulations
• Clinical Care Teams: Roles, Responsibilities and Communication Challenges
• Gross Anatomy Lab and Suturing Basics
• BLS Training
• Clinical Immersion Experiences in Multiple Health Care Settings
• Engaging Virtual Reality for Clinical Education and Patient Care

 

Scholarships are available

Limited scholarships are available for this course. There is no application fee for the scholarship. Applications must be completed on this form and sent to events@jumpsimulation.org before May 15, 2023. Selected applicants will be notified by May 22, 2023.

In this DIY Engineering course, students will use a microcontroller and DC air pump to make a mini ventilator and inflate a balloon to simulate filling lungs with air. This course will involve soldering, coding and 3D printing. At the end of the day, students can take home their own mini ventilator!

Did you know that of the 100 TRILLION cells living on or inside of your body, only 10 trillion of these are human?! That’s right. The remaining “universe’ of microscopic cells are bacteria, parasites, fungi or even other animals. Can you believe your body carries more living creatures than there are humans on the entire planet earth? Well, seeing is believing. And a microscope is a simple and fun tool you can use to look at the invisible bits of life in the world that surround you all the time.

Microscopy 101: An introduction to microscopy

This section discusses the basic knowledge and study of microscopy. In this course, you’ll learn about your microscope and its individual parts, how it works and we’ll show you how to organize your home lab. Then you’ll use the scientific method to setup your discovery notebook for exploration of possible career paths.
