OSF Saint Francis Medical Center has performed over 1,300 kidney and pancreas transplants since the procedures were first introduced in Peoria—more than any other hospital in central and southern Illinois.

The first kidney transplant was performed at OSF Saint Francis in July of 1985. Since that time, transplant services have played a vital role in the treatment of end stage renal disease and kidney transplantation.

In 2002, pancreas transplantation was added in order to provide additional benefit to patients with kidney failure from Type 1 diabetes.
